Incident report: Book thieves, toppled trees

A custodian notified security that several individuals were seen stealing cases of drinks off the loading dock of the Campus Center at 8:15 p.m.
The suspects fled on foot, and cases of water, Gatorade and green tea were missing. The security guard on the graveyard shift posted himself near the loading dock preventing anymore theft that night.

At 11:50 a.m. a female student was nearly hit by falling tree branches when getting into her car in the Administration Building's parking lot. High winds pushed three Aleppo pine trees over.
The student was uninjured but visibly shaken and brought to the nurse's office for precautionary reasons. Six cars were damaged but most only had minor scratches and dents. One vehicle was towed away after receiving damage.
Risk Manager Steve Lewis described in his report that the gust was a "sudden wind with possible water spout or tornado like speed." Numerous other trees and structures were damaged on Thursday as a result of the intense wind.
Jan. 25
A male student was stopped leaving the bookstore after setting off the alarms at 10:45 a.m. When the student was questioned he claimed he was not a student and was just going outside to show his girlfriend the books she needed for her class. Once security discovered the male was in fact a City College student, he admitted to trying to steal the books that together valued at $62.
At 3:05 p.m. another student set off the alarm. When asked to empty his bag, an unpaid book valuing $76 was found.
The student claimed he had received a book grant, but when the cashier told him he had not yet been approved for the grant, he tried to take the book out of the store.
