Losing weight seems like a never-ending battle. The reason is that we tend to look for the quick fix rather than the real solutions to keep our weight off for good.
Most often, we fail miserably and end up with more pounds after we go on the "magical" diets.
Is there a way to help lose the weight for good? The answer is yes, and it's not an overnight solution.
We have been bombarded with infomercials on television, billboards across American freeways, and news articles in glamour magazines to tell us about the various diets that can help us to feel good, look good, and be healthy.
Ask yourself: If losing weight is so easy, and all those magical diets are out there to help us, why are Americans getting unhealthier?
I guess we are so desperate to fit in those size one jeans and to get the beach-tanned six packs that we forget to think.
Most commercialized diets are gimmicks to get you to buy products. The truth is, there aren't any regulations for what these companies produce and what they claim.
The FDA is responsible for regulating all products that are related to food and drugs. But weight loss products fall into a gray area. These products are neither food nor drugs, as they are perceived as supplements.
Most of these companies will have factual claims on the results of their products, but their results are short-term. If we do stay with these diets, chances are we will either end up in a hospital or insane from not eating normal foods.
The sad thing is that we are so desperate that we jump on the phone to get these diet programs and start giving away our credit card numbers, like Chinese restaurants give away fortune cookies.
Most weight-loss products contain chemicals to alter your body's natural state. They'll alter your biochemical balance and cause your body to react in certain ways. Some diets will cause loss of muscle tissue rather than body fat.
Dehydration is part of most diet programs; that's why you see overnight weight loss of 10 pounds or more. This is one of the way these companies can claim their weight loss program to be effective.
